The Pastor

The Reverend Kelli Summers SorgThe Reverend Kelli Summers Sorg is a United Methodist clergywoman in central North Carolina.

In her words, “I am deeply involved and interested in the intersection of ‘knowledge and vital piety’ (as Charles Wesley would say). Or to put it another way, the place where God’s will and the world come together. I try to preach with the Bible in one hand and the newspaper in the other, pointing to the places where God is already at work in the world. Transparency and authenticity are the hallmarks I strive for in my life and in my vocation.

I am interested in the theological work of Bishop Tom Wright, Miroslav Volf and many others whose work on resurrection, forgiveness and the incredible creativity of God are touchpoints for my life in the local parish. Other thinkers and Jesus-followers that are influences for me are Thomas Merton, Henri Nouwen, Eugene Peterson and Macrina Wiederkehr.

In earlier days I have been a stay-at-home mom, an Emmy-award winning television producer and in marketing and public relations for tourism entities. Through it all, God has been and is real to me as I work in God’s kingdom to do my bit to bring shalom, justice, peace and healing to this broken world.”
